Tales from the Techside will now auto-detect if you are viewing the site from a mobile browser and display a WAP friendly version. To access the site from a mobile browser just visit http://www.psyne.net from your Treo, Cell phone, PSP or other mobile device. You are not limited to just reading the site you can also leave comments as well. As an author I can also make mobile posts which will allow me to blog live from conferences and events from my cellphone or pda.

Why is this worthy of a post? I believe that in the near future people are going to be looking to their mobile devices to access their favorite online resources on the go. Doing a quick survey of Blogs in the RE.net I have yet to find a single one among the popular blogs that are accessible from mobile devices. Hopefully by writing this post and posting the how-to below I will see a majority of RE.net blogs mobile accessible it really only takes 5 minutes (honestly you probably spent more time reading this post then you would configuring the mobile plugin).
Some of the benefits I see to having your blog or site accessible by mobile browsers include: doing so allows people to share your site with others that might not have been exposed to it, a mobile edition also creates more utility for your blog or site by making it more accessible perhaps as a goto resource when they need it in the field or at a social event etc…
If you are a blog author and are interested in having the same feature for your wordpress blog here it is in a simple four step process.
- Download the Wordpress Mobile Edition Plugin
- Upload wordpress-mobile.php to your plugins folder
- Goto Plugins in your Admin dashboard and click activate next to Wordpress Mobile
- Click Options and then WordPress Mobile to customize your site
Thats all it takes to make sure people using Mobile browsers can view your site and leave comments. To see how your site looks in a mobile browser use the online mobile browser emulator from Mobi.
