Jott is an interesting technology that will transcribe your voice to text while there are some pretty cool uses for this technology such as setting appointment reminders, or sending your self virtual sticky notes. What really caught my attention is that Jott now lets you phone in your blog articles as well.
The Jott to blog service works with Blogger.com, wordpress (hosted and self installed), typepad, and live journal.
Granted at 30 seconds of recording time Jott will not allow me to phone in my typical post but it does let me frame my thoughts.
Setting up an account on Jott took about 5 minutes and included filling out a standard form, validating a primary email address, and defining the number you would call Jott from. To link your blog to Jott you go under the Jott links tab and click add next to your platform.
To phone in a post simply call the toll free number and when asked speak the name you assigned to the blogging platform link, in my case I named it blog. From there you just speak your post and Jott will transcribe your call posting it to your blog.
As a test I phoned in this post to Jott and it got pretty darn close with only a couple errors in transcription which is probably more due to the fact that talk a bit fast and tend to mumble then a failure of the technology. It took about 10 minutes of formatting and clean up to turn my Jott into a post. The one issue I did have was that it posted automatically to the site which could be embarrassing but that could be fixed by setting up the proper author permissions and requiring admin approval before letting that account post.
While posting to your Blog via Jott is really only a novelty the technology still has several uses and at the price point of Free well it is definitely a bargain.
People who know me, know that I carry around a black moleskin notebook with me everywhere I go, I use my notebook to capture all the ideas or thoughts that I have and can’t act on in the moment. Often times though I will have a thought while driving that I can’t capture and sometimes it is lost with Jott I can speed dial the service and auto-send the idea to myself or post it somewhere so I can capture it later. That is just one example how Jott can be used some other uses for Jott that I can think of are:
- Send yourself reminders or capture those flashes of inspiration you have while driving
- Delegate tasks to your staff or team
- Capture important information that you might need later on
- Keep clients informed of what you are doing for them in the field
- Let clients know in real time if you find a home or property that they should see
How would you use Jott? Or if you are using Jott or a service like it how are you using it currently?
