SEO Made Simple

Michael Seguin has written a couple of awesome articles on Search Engine Marketing and Search Engine Optimization. I thought I would toss this little nuts and bolts guide in the mix for anyone who was interested in doing some quick and easy SEO.

There are a couple of elements that if correctly optimized can make sure your blog or site is well positioned in the search engine rankings. The first element I would like to examine is Keyword Density. This is simply a measure of the amount your content focuses on the keywords you want to be found under. For instance if I wanted to position myself as a first time home buyer expert in Dublin, CA; then I would write articles that included these keywords. Generally speaking try to hit a mix of about 20% keywords in your writing and include a keyword in your title tag, and header.

To further optimize you keywords focus on placement and emphasis what I means is if you can work in strong (bold) and emphasis (italic) styles in your writing try to highlight some of your keywords as search engine spiders will recognize their emphasis and give them a greater weight. Also if you have not already done so make sure you have an H1 title and include your keyword within your title, search engine spiders give a great deal of weight to H1 titles. Use your page title effectively to get the best result use your exact keywords that you want to be found on in the title tag and use a separate title for each page on your site.

Tip: Try to use a keyword in the first and last sentence of your content.

Well that is all the tips I have for this short article on Search Engine Optimization. There are a lot more ways that you can go the extra mile to optimize your site for search engines however the ones covered above are the ones that most commonly overlooked. The good news is for many people search engine optimization is as simple as starting a blog. Most of the blogging platforms available today are optimized for search.

Remember search engines are constantly adapting and changing so ultimately don’t depend on a set of rules to get your site noticed by search engines. Rather focus on developing content and sharing links both of which will drive traffic search engines to your site.
