Complete a Designation Issue a Press Release

This evening I was looking through Google News for any new stories containing the phrase “REALTOR”. The first question that comes to mind is don’t I have anything better to do. Honestly no; I finished my homework, American Idol is back to being boring and it is too cold to walk the dog (don’t judge me).

Below the stories about the recent Roost.com launch and the trials and tribulations of the real estate market in general was a story that practically screamed click me.

Mike Massey completes REALTOR e-PRO COURSE
Jackson Sun, TN - Feb 3, 2008
Mike Massey of Crye-Leike Blue Skies Real Estate has sucessfully completed the REALTOR e-PRO course to become one of a select few real estate professionals

Now I know what your thinking either there is nothing at all going on in Jackson TN or this is a fake story. I know I did so the first thing I did was check to see if I was on a splog or a fake news site like the Onion. Once I determined I was not I got to thinking how effective that simple press release was. In a time when everyone is focused on setting up Blogs, Video Home Tours, using the eye-fi card to well I am not sure what with the last one. Mike Massey got national press attention that he completed his e-PRO course.

Reading the press release the author does a great job in defining what the certification means and more importantly the value that the certification will bring Mike Massey and his clients. Further down the page was press releases for REALTORS who had completed CRS training courses and even a press release for the agents who received a breakfast award for selling over $1,000,000 in inventory. What was interesting is each of these releases were for the same brokerage Crye-Leike Blue Skies Real Estate. I know if I ever decide to move to Jackson TN (its a long-shot I admit) and I want to buy a house there I will be looking Crye-Leike Blue Skies Real Estate.

Now think about all the certifications you have that are hanging on your wall, or awards or accomplishments that your agents or offices have had in recent years. Did your certification or award get the national attention that Mike Massey got with his e-PRO certification or that Judy Sirls got for her finishing a two day CRS course? So the morale of the story is that while emerging technologies are great, sometimes a simple press release can get national attention, oh and if you accomplish something don’t be afraid to tell the world about it.

Hi, Saw you post come across my google alerts. I work for Crye-Leike in the IT department. Our PR director issues regular press releases about many different topics company, industry news etc. Many of them are about agent accomplishments and awards. Just thought I would stop by and say hi. Thought it was interesting what you found and your perspective on how a press release like that was received. Thanks for sharing that.

Angie thanks for your comment. To be honest this has become the point of much discussion around the association centering on how we can provide the same exposure for our agents and their accomplishments. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find other topics of interest on the site.
